Colorado seems to be fighting any references to spring with its perpetually cold weather. If there is one thing Coloradans can do, though, it’s take advantage of our pristine snow, icy air and blue skies. We know the weather may be weighing on some of you (we have to admit it’s weighing on us) but with the end in sight, we think it’s best to take advantage of these last winter months with some of our favorite snow sports.
Check out what made our list of Top Five Colorado Winter Activities.
One of the best ways to enjoy the snow is by getting out of the city. There is something about a snow-covered scenic drive and freshly blanketed mountain town that makes us fall in love with snow all over again. Luckily, we have the best selection of mountain getaways so that you can simply choose the location and be on your way. Visit towns like Crested Butte, Durango, Carbondale, Breckenridge and more.
Perhaps by this point your wallet is fresh out of extra cash for a ski pass and you’re looking for a more affordable way to enjoy the powdery slopes. Relish in the brisk mountain air, and the fresh packed powder, by strapping on some snowshoes and exploring your favorite mountain landscapes.
If you are looking for something slightly more adventurous, now is the time to try your hand at Air Boarding. This adrenaline-inducing winter activity will have you carving your way through fresh packed snow on your stomach. It will easily fulfill your dreams of being an Olympic luger or bobsledder.
For all you rock climbers out there, and we know there are a lot of you, if you’re getting antsy waiting for the weather to clear, eliminate some of your winter blues through ice climbing. It combines the technical skills of rock climbing, with our favorite parts of winter: the snow of course. Get outside and breath in that fresh mountain air.
Occasionally the best way to stay warm is with a great, locally brewed beer. Spend the afternoon warming up inside a brewery with a group of friends and enjoying a selection of Colorado’s finest beers. Sometimes the best way to enjoy the snow is by watching it fall while you’re staying warm inside.
